VRT Sandbox and startup On-Hertz showcase virtual radio studio at EBU's Network Technology seminar

On April 18th, Radio 2 (VRT) broadcasted the very first radio show in Belgium entirely produced live from a flying hot air balloon. At an altitude of more than 600 meters, presenter Daan Masset and his entire crew entertained Radio 2’s audience with a mixture of human interest, breaking news and music.

The successful endeavor was led by VRT Sandbox as part of their mission to boost media innovation. The solution was deployed in collaboration with the startup On-Hertz and includes a complete and compact radio studio, running on a simple tablet with additional video coverage for the Facebook Live feed.

VRT Sandbox and On-Hertz will now be demonstrating this solution, providing hyper mobility to radio teams, at the Network Technology Seminar (NTS2018) by EBU on June 19 & 20 in Geneva.

About VRT Sandbox and intrapreneurship

VRT Sandbox boosts media innovation by matching startups and innovative organizations to the public broadcaster VRT for short periods of time. These partners receive the opportunity to develop, validate and scale their products with access to VRT’s expertise, infrastructure and technological resources.

VRT Sandbox offers the same support to VRT colleagues, as to startups. These intrapreneurs are able to experiment with new technologies and formats within the setting of VRT. VRT Sandbox offers training for pitching, sales and business analysis, as well as business development and so much more. Giving colleagues the opportunity to develop their own ideas adds value to the VRT as a work place and creates space for innovating ideas to grow .
